Covid-19 Update

Our new normal

Our team would like to thank all of our patients for having an understanding and continued support during the most difficult time of our year during the Covid 19 lockdown.  Although we are not fully out of the woods and will still need to be vigilant and cautionary, we thought that we would give an update on our “new normal”.

Our doors are open however we are currently triaging and monitoring all patients coming into the surgery, ensuring that it remains a safe zone for all our patients and staff.  Please call us if you are needing to see or speak to a doctor.

We are currently offering all of our patient’s telephone consultations.  Phone consultations is now part of our new normal.  A lot can be done over the phone, not only is it a time saver to you, it is also cheaper for the visit.  Not all visits can be done over the phone however have a chat with your GP and they will arrange a face to face consultation for you.

We are also back to offering face to face consultations, these will consultations will be triaged first by reception and/or your GP.  If you have any flu like symptoms, we will be unable to do a face to face unless your GP triages you over the phone first.

If you have any questions please call us 09 267 4525, email us [email protected] or use our Manage My Health patient portal

Flu Vaccinations

All about the 2020 Influenza Season

2020 key messages

  • Around one in four New Zealanders are infected with influenza or ‘flu’ each year. Many won’t feel sick at all, but can still pass it on to others. Getting an influenza vaccination before winter offers you and others the best protection
  • Pregnant women and their babies can suffer serious consequences as a result of influenza. A FREE influenza vaccination during any trimester of the pregnancy reduces this risk
  • Older people and those with certain medical conditions are more likely to have medical complications from influenza. A FREE influenza vaccination reduces these risks
  • Influenza is a serious illness that can put anyone in hospital or even kill them, including young and healthy people
  • Influenza vaccination is safe, effective and cannot give you “the flu”

More than 1.2 million New Zealanders have their influenza vaccination each year. Getting vaccinated each year as early as possible before winter hits gives the best protection.

Free Sore Throat Clinic

For all kids between four and 19 years old.

Call us on 09 267 4525 to make an appointment with one of our nurses. Throat checks can prevent rheumatic fever.

What is rheumatic fever?

Children and young people are the most likely to get rheumatic fever. It occurs after a strep throat – a throat infection caused by a Group A Streptococcus (GAS) bacteria. Most strep throat gets better and doesn’t lead to rheumatic fever. However, in a small number of people, untreated strep throat develops into rheumatic fever, where their heart, joints, brain and skin become inflamed and swollen.

While the symptoms of rheumatic fever may disappear on their own, the inflammation can cause rheumatic heart disease, that causes scarring of the heart valves.

People with rheumatic heart disease may need heart valve replacement surgery and can die prematurely.
